How to measure your space?
What You’ll Need:
  • Tape measure (preferably metal for accuracy)
  • Notepad or measuring worksheet
  • Calculator
  • Step ladder (for tall walls)
Step 1: Measure Wall Height and Width
  1. Measure the Height of each wall from floor to ceiling.
  2. Measure the Width of each wall from corner to corner.
  3. Note these measurements in feet.

Tip: Always double-check your measurements for accuracy.

Step 2: Multiply Height × Width

This gives you the square footage of each wall:

  • Example: A wall that’s 8 feet high and 10 feet wide = 80 square feet.

Do this for every wall you want to cover, then add all the square footage together to get the total area.

Step 3: Subtract Doors and Windows (Optional)

If you're using expensive wallpaper or want to be precise:

  1. Measure each door and window.
  2. Multiply height × width for each opening.
  3. Subtract the total from your overall wall area.

Most people skip this step, especially for patterned wallpaper where alignment matters more than precision.

Step 4: Consider Pattern Repeat

If your wallpaper has a pattern repeat, you’ll need extra to match the design across panels.

Add about 10–20% extra to your total to account for:

  • Pattern alignment
  • Trimming and errors
  • Future repairs

Step 5: Use our wallpaper calculator

Simply use our wallpaper calculator with your wall measurements, excluding doors and windows. Include an additional 10% to account for pattern alignment and potential installation errors.

How to prepare the wall for wallpaper?

Smooth, flat walls are perfect for wallpaper installation!

Light to medium textured walls will likely work great with our luxury removable wallpaper as well! Order samples to test how they adhere and perform on your specific surface.

Rough or heavily textured walls require skim coating before installing any wallcovering to ensure proper adhesion.

Recently painted surfaces need a 30-day curing period before wallpaper application to allow the paint to fully set and release gases.

How to install wallpaper?

Installing wallpaper can be a satisfying DIY project if you take your time and prep properly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you install wallpaper like a pro—this applies to most traditional and peel-and-stick wallpapers.

Supplies Needed:
  • Wallpaper rolls
  • Wallpaper paste (for unpasted paper)
  • Smoothing tool or wallpaper brush
  • Utility knife & straightedge
  • Level or plumb line
  • Measuring tape & pencil
  • Seam roller (optional)
  • Sponge & clean water (for paste cleanup)
Step-by-Step Wallpaper Installation
1. Prep the Wall
  • Remove nails, outlet covers, and switch plates.
  • Fill holes and sand smooth.
  • Clean the wall thoroughly—dust, grease, or texture can affect adhesion.
  • Apply a primer or wallpaper sizing if using traditional wallpaper—this helps with adhesion and removal later.
2. Mark a Plumb Line

Use a level to draw a straight vertical line about 19-20 inches from the corner (our wallpaper width is 19 inches). This ensures your first strip is straight—even if the wall isn't.

3. Cut Your First Strip

Measure the height of the wall and cut your first strip, adding 2–4 inches at the top and bottom for trimming.

If your wallpaper has a pattern, align it before cutting the next strip.

4. Apply the Adhesive
  • Unpasted: Apply paste to the back using a brush or roller.
  • Peel & Stick: Just remove the backing as you apply.

Let pasted paper “book” (fold pasted sides together) for 3–5 minutes before hanging.

5. Hang the First Strip
  • Line up the right edge of the strip with your plumb line.
  • Gently smooth it from the center outward with a smoothing tool to remove bubbles.
  • Leave a bit extra at the ceiling and floor.
6. Trim Excess

Use a straightedge and utility knife to trim top and bottom edges for a clean finish.

7. Match the Next Strip
  • Line up the next strip edge-to-edge, matching the pattern.
  • Avoid overlapping unless specified.
  • Smooth and trim like the first strip.
8. Clean as You Go

Wipe away paste with a damp sponge immediately to prevent staining.

9. Roll the Seams (Optional)

Use a seam roller for a seamless finish, especially for thick or textured wallpaper.

Final Tips:
  • Install in daylight or good lighting.
  • Don’t rush—take breaks between strips if needed.
  • For textured walls, use a wallpaper liner first.
  • Keep scraps in case you need a repair later.
Is wallpaper appropriate for humid environments?

Traditional wallpaper isn't typically suitable for high-moisture environments like bathrooms or kitchens. The humidity and moisture in these spaces can cause traditional wallpaper to peel or buckle. The adhesive used with traditional wallpaper may deteriorate when continuously exposed to moisture, reducing its bonding strength over time.

Our luxury peel-and-stick wallpaper, however, performs better in high-moisture areas such as bathrooms.

We always recommend ordering a sample and testing it in your specific space over time to evaluate how well it adheres to your walls.
